The Academy For English Studies

The Academy was founded in 1990.

Ann Stewart (B.A., H.(Dip.) Ed., Honours in Applied Linguistics, Wits) has taught English since 1976, and has written a number of courses, including one for Anglo American mining staff, one for Group 5 building staff and one for Cargo motors cleaning staff. She also compiles materials for the Academy's courses. She has a great deal of experience and has experimented with different methods of making learning effective, adjusting and altering materials where necessary.

Ann Stewart is the grammar consultant for the language website English-to-go.com, which issues lessons and provides services in grammar and vocabulary. Teachers and Students from around the world send grammatical queries for her to answer.

We have a number of teachers on our books, and all of them have qualifications and experience. Our main teacher is Riva Klompas (B.A. Soc.), who taught foreign children for 10 years before joining the Academy. She is friendly and gentle, qualities that are essential for inspiring confidence. She has internalised the Academy's Behaviourist methodology, and so the teaching is consistent in all classrooms.

For nearly ten years, English-To-Go.com has been supplying printable lessons to teachers all over the world. Its sister site, SelfAccess.com, supplies online interactive lessons for students, and InstantWorkbook.com allows teachers to set specific online lessons for their students. Instant Lessons, with authentic news stories from Reuters, formed the backbone of the resources, but very soon Anna Grammar started answering questions from teachers, and later creating grammar worksheets for printable and online lessons. While some of the worksheets come through the team of writers, the answers to questions from teachers, and the first worksheets, are all from the one and only Anna Grammar, aka Ann Stewart.
